Using the information you read with your group, discuss one way Japan is affected by its population density.
Be sure to start your discussion with one of the following titles: How Population Density Affects Housing How Population Density Affects Transportation How Population Density Affects Land Use How Population Density Affects Health
The large population in Japan brings challanges for housing. This is because flat land is scarce. Many Japanese people live in nuclear families, and they use rooms for more than one purpose. Many Japanese families live in apartments no bigger than a family room in an American house. They have to make appliances smaller. Crowding even affects people after death, because cemetaries are full.
Population denisty effects transportation in many ways. One way of transportation that is having problems is the subway and train stations. Many people that ride the subway hire special people to shove as many people as possible into the cars of the subway. Also another problem with the subway is that the average tavel time is an hour and thirty minutes each day. Another way of transportation that is having problems is car driving because of the high population you first have to prove you have a place to park before you own a car. The other issue with driving a car is the high amount of traffic with the car owners. If i lived in Japan i would ride a bicycle.

Land usage in Japan is limited, and conflicts arise because of it. Two solutions to the problem are by buliding up, down, and creating new land. The Japanese build skyscrapers which are earthquake resistant, and underground shopping centers. They fill marshes and wetlands to create more land, but it destorys wildlife habitats. they creat terraced farming that allows them to farmon hills and mountains.
Housing is a problem in Japan. Many Japanese people live in apartments because there is not much liveing space. The Japanese have found many ways to make the most of their space. Most people are cremated because it takes up less space and all of Japan's cemetaries are full.

How Population Density Affects Health
The high population density causes trash bulid up and other hazardous factors such as pollution affects the health of the population. Some examples of the pollution problems include;acid rain which is rain with high amounts of acid. Another example is wastewater. Finally toxic chemicals are dumped into the oceans and streams. The chemicals poison fish and anyone who eats it. Diseases also spread more quickly in highly populated areas.
How Population Density Affects Land Use
The way popilation density affects land use is, the more people you have, the less space there is to accomidate them.In Japan they use land efficiently. they build shopping centers underground, and they build buildings tall instead of wide. The buildings have to be equipt with earthquake proof structures. The Japanese habe made use of land that would have otherwise been called wastelands. They turn wetlands into places where people can live. The poplation makes this nessacary. Japan has a very high population density and that makes it impossible not to use all salvageable lands.
Japan used to be one of the most polluted cites in the world. One problem is since, people live so close to each other the can sperad sicckness, and diseases easily. In, modern days, people have become more aware. They sweep street's daily, and when people are sick they wear facemask. They also have a longer life expectancy, going up 81.
